Quincy Cursillo Board Policy/ Change Policy Item #14
“Restricted Building Fund Monies”
(Note: It is required that any changes to Board Policy be read/published for three months before the policy change can take effect. Please direct any comments to John Runge, Quincy Cursillo Lay Director.)
Twenty-three-years ago Quincy Cursillo was struggling in our relationship and communications with Quincy University and we were at a point where it appeared we wouldn’t have a place to hold our spiritual weekends. For about a year and a half we were uprooted several times and forced to use different and somewhat difficult facilities for our weekends. Because of this and a desire in some in our Cursillo Family’s hearts for a home of our own, a building fund was established in May of 1987. In January of 1990 a building committee was formed to seek an alternative plan and place for our weekends.
During the interim years our situation and communications, though not always smooth, have stabilized and we have been assured by Quincy University that there are no other future plans for the Spirituality Center except to help the movements of Cursillo, TEC, Koinonia, Walk To Emmaus, 4th Day Renewal, Quest and other users of the facility such as the Salvation Army and the fire department. This can certainly change because of Quincy University’s needs, but for now we seem to be in as secure of a situation as is possible.
Over the 21 years, we have accumulated $43,000.00 in the building fund. This money has been the subject of controversy over the years and has been in a restricted account by board policy stated: “All monies donated to the Building Fund are restricted to the use of building or buying a Retreat Center in which Quincy Cursillo can facilitate a weekend.”
The present board finds in light of our past and present history that this money should not be restricted. The board being fiscally responsible should be able to improve the quality of the environment of our weekends by the use of these funds and currently we have a list of projects that will benefit the family.
Because we do not want to inappropriately use money that donors intended for a specific purpose when they donated it, we are asking for your help. If you donated to the Cursillo Building Fund and you are not in agreement with the board decision, please contact the Quincy Cursillo Lay Director, John Runge at 319-524-1009 (evenings) or email: info@quincycursillo.comPossibly this money could be earmarked for a specific improvement to our facility.
We will publish this notice in the Fourth Day newsletter and also announce it from the pulpit for a period of three months. We also request that if you know of someone who donated but will not read or hear this, that you notify them.
Thanks to our whole family for your continued support of us even when you don’t understand or agree completely with our thoughts or actions. We as board always try to do what is best for our future but it is based on the information we have at hand, so please keep your board representatives informed. Continue to keep us in yours prayers as we try to discern our needs in light of the mission and goals we are trying to attain.
